Recognizing risks and opportunities
In order to identify and manage the variety of potential risks associated with business activities, our Management Board has implemented a risk management system that also covers environmental, social and governance (ESG) risks. Part of the risk strategy is to identify these risks at an early stage, assess them appropriately and take suitable measures to limit or avoid them. The measures taken and assumptions made are reviewed annually. The individual service areas at each location are responsible for this.
Integrated management system
Environmental protection, health protection, plant safety and occupational safety are coordinated by the "EHS" department.
Our Group-wide, comprehensive safety management is embedded in our Integrated Management System (IMS). We control our operational processes via the IMS and the process control and monitoring systems derived from it. It describes processes and responsibilities and defines Group-wide standards, including product quality, energy, environmental protection, plant safety, occupational safety and health protection.
The IMS is based on legal regulations as well as national and international standards. These are based on national and international norms, laws, customer requirements and our own principles. We have the IMS certified by a global service provider. The certifications include the standards ISO 14001:2015 for environmental protection, ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety, ISO 50001:2018 for energy management at the German sites and IATF 16949:2016 for quality management systems.
