Siltronic secures green energy from solar power
"This contract is an important milestone on our path to a more sustainable future. It demonstrates that we not only talking about responsibility but are taking concrete actions to minimize our environmental impact," says Michael Wirnsberger, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Siltronic.
Siltronic will source the electricity from various young solar parks in Germany. With an annual contract volume of 60 gigawatt-hours, the amount of electricity corresponds to the annual consumption of about 20,000 households. This will result in a reduction of the company's greenhouse gas emissions by around 25,000 tons per year.
Siltronic is firmly committed to fulfilling its role in climate protection and therefore joined the Science Based Target Initiative in 2021. "We aim to halve our directly caused greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by the year 2030. With the new contract, we are getting a big step closer to this ambitious goal," says Dr. Michael Heckmeier, CEO of Siltronic AG.
